Dr. Alvin Yang was born and raised in Toronto. Growing up, he had a very close relationship with his grandparents and they instilled a foundation of values and purpose in him. Dr. Yang knew he wanted to serve the community in some way, shape or form. In fact, his first summer job was working as an activity aid in the Alzheimer’s ward of a retirement home. There, he discovered his passion and calling for patient care. He followed this passion and a decade later he graduated from the prestigious University of Waterloo Optometry program. Dr. Yang is TPA-certified and has specialty interests in dry eye therapy, senior eye care, and paediatrics.
In his down time, Dr. Yang enjoys weight training, restaurant hopping, and singing. In his second year of optometry school, he competed in an international singing competition in Hong Kong and almost signed with a record label. Dr. Yang also has an Instagram channel in which he posts eye health-related videos @singingeyedoctor.
Dr. Patrick Eng was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When asked in kindergarten what he wanted to be when he grew up, he remembered answering “eye doctor”. As fate would have it, he went on to graduate from the University of Manitoba with his Bachelor of Science degree, then obtained his Optometry doctorate degree at the University of Waterloo. Optometry indeed turned out to be the perfect career match for him as he thoroughly enjoys connecting with patients and applying his expertise to bring out the best in their vision.
In his spare time, his happy place is playing badminton and spending quality time with his wife and daughter.
Dr. Gurjot Chahal was born and raised in Markham. She received her Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Disease and Biology at the University of Toronto. She went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. During her externship year, she worked with renowned Optometrists in Boston MA, Newington CT and Beverly Hills CA. She enjoys primary eye care with an interest in dry eyes and ocular disease management.
In her spare time, Dr. Chahal enjoys traveling, watching Netflix, and keeping up with the latest research and treatment in eye care.
Dr. Chahal is board certified in both Canada and the USA. She is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
Dr. Kristy Lam received both her Bachelor of Honours Science and Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo where she graduated with Dean’s Honour. Dr. Lam completed a clinical externship at the Lexington Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky where she gained extensive experience in diagnosing, counseling and managing ocular diseases such as cataracts, dry eye syndrome, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. As part of her clinical training, she also interned at primary care clinics in Markham, Mississauga and Waterloo, with training in pediatric exams, contact lens fitting, binocular vision, low vision and pre-operative and post-operative refractive surgery (LASIK) exams.
Dr. Lam had the privilege to participate in a volunteer eye care missions to Honduras, where they provided full ocular-visual assessments, dispensed donated spectacles and medications and arranged surgery for those in need of secondary care. She also volunteered with Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes providing vision test for athletes. She hopes to continue to participate in eye care missions around the world.
Her clinical interest lies in providing full spectrum family vision care, especially paediatric eye care and diagnosing and managing of ocular diseases. Dr. Lam is certified to use of oral and ocular therapeutics to treat ocular disease. She is also able to provide eye examinations in English and Cantonese. She looks forward to improve quality of life of people through optimizing their vision and educating of eye health.
